MATCHA AND MINT TEA

Matcha and Mint Tea is a vibrant and energising beverage that combines the rich, earthy flavour of matcha with the bright and cooling freshness of mint leaves. This invigorating blend is packed with antioxidants and provides a gentle caffeine lift, making it ideal for morning rituals or mid-day refreshments. Matcha is a finely ground powder of specially grown green tea and is renowned for its concentration of catechins, chlorophyll and L-theanine, which is a compound known to support calm focus. When paired with fresh mint, which aids digestion and soothes the senses, the result is a refreshing tea that awakens both body and mind. This simple recipe is low in calories, quick to prepare and suited to those seeking a plant-based, low-sugar beverage with health-promoting benefits. Whether sipped warm or served over ice, Matcha and Mint Tea are a modern healthy essential.

PREPARATION

These steps are followed for the preparation of Matcha and Mint Tea:

  • Heat Water: Bring 200 millilitres of water to a gentle boil, then allow it to cool slightly to 75 to 80°C to avoid burning the matcha.
  • Prepare Matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a cup or small bowl to prevent clumping.
  • Whisk: Add a small amount of hot water to the matcha and whisk vigorously using a bamboo whisk or fork until the mixture is frothy and smooth.
  • Add Mint: Lightly bruise the mint leaves to release their oils, then add them to the cup.
  • Pour And Stir: Pour in the remaining hot water and stir gently to blend the flavours.
  • Serve Immediately: Enjoy warm or let it cool and serve over ice for a chilled version.

TIPS

  • Use Cooler Water: Avoid boiling water directly on matcha to maintain its delicate flavour and nutrient content.
  • Sift The Matcha: This helps dissolve the powder evenly and prevents lumps from forming.
  • Whisk In A “W” Motion: This technique creates a frothy top layer and better integration.
  • Use Fresh Mint: Always use fresh, bright-green mint leaves for the best aroma and taste.

VARIATIONS

  • Citrus Zest Twist: Add a thin slice of lemon or orange peel to enhance brightness.
  • Mint-Matcha Iced Latte: Mix in chilled plant-based milk and a dash of vanilla.
  • Sweetened Option: Add a teaspoon of maple syrup or honey for a lightly sweetened finish.
  • Spiced Version: A pinch of cinnamon or cardamom introduces warm, earthy notes.

PREPPING AND STORAGE

  • Refrigeration: Store brewed tea in a sealed glass jar or bottle for up to 24 hours.
  • Chilled Matcha: Brew ahead and store in the fridge for a quick, cool pick-me-up.
  • Freeze Into Cubes: Pour into an ice cube tray and freeze for mint-matcha ice cubes, perfect for flavoured water or smoothies.
  • Batch Preparation: Triple the quantity and blend for use throughout the day, especially in summer.
