CUCUMBER AND MINT WATER

Cucumber And Mint Water is a naturally flavoured and rejuvenating drink that supports hydration and promotes digestion without any added sugars or artificial ingredients, with just three simple components: crisp cucumber slices, cooling mint leaves and cold water. This infusion delivers a subtle and refreshing flavour. Ideal for hot weather, post-workout replenishment or daily sipping, this quick-to-prepare beverage is both energising and soothing. It also adds a touch of sophistication to your water intake, making hydration feel more like a treat than a task.

PREPARATION

  • Wash The Ingredients: Rinse the cucumber and mint leaves under cold running water to remove any surface residue or dirt.
  • Slice The Cucumber: Cut 3 thin slices of cucumber, ideally from the centre section, for the best flavour and texture.
  • Bruise The Mint: Gently crush the mint leaves using your fingers or the back of a spoon. This releases the essential oils for a stronger infusion.
  • Combine Ingredients: Place the cucumber slices and bruised mint leaves into a glass or bottle.
  • Add Cold Water: Pour 300 millilitres of cold water over the ingredients and gently stir.
  • Infuse: Allow the mixture to rest for at least 5 to 10 minutes. For a more intense flavour, infuse for up to 2 hours in the fridge.
  • Serve: Enjoy immediately with or without ice or strain if you prefer a clearer drink.

TIPS

  • Use Filtered Water: For the cleanest taste, use filtered or mineral water to avoid chlorine or metallic aftertaste.
  • Chill For Longer Flavour: If time allows, refrigerate the infused water for 1 to 2 hours before serving for deeper infusion.
  • Use A Glass Jug Or Bottle: Glass containers preserve the fresh taste better than plastic and they also do not absorb flavours.
  • Double The Batch: Prepare a larger quantity in a pitcher and store it in the fridge for up to two days.
  • Keep Ingredients Submerged: Use a reusable infuser or stir before serving to ensure even flavour distribution.

VARIATIONS

  • Add Citrus: Include a slice of lemon or lime for added tang and vitamin C.
  • Include Berries: Drop in a few sliced strawberries or blueberries for natural sweetness and antioxidants.
  • Swap Mint For Basil: For a unique twist, replace mint with fresh basil for a more savoury herbal profile.
  • Make It Fizzy: Use sparkling water instead of still for a carbonated version that feels more like a fancy drink.
  • Infuse With Ginger: Add a thin slice of fresh ginger root to enhance the digestive benefits and introduce gentle spice.
  • Add Electrolytes: Mix in a pinch of sea salt and a splash of coconut water for a natural electrolyte boost after workouts.
  • Use Flavoured Ice Cubes: Freeze cucumber or mint in ice cube trays and use them to enhance presentation and slow infusion.
  • Add Apple Slices: Green apple adds crisp sweetness while maintaining the refreshing flavour profile.

PREPPING AND STORAGE

  • Refrigeration: Store the prepared cucumber and mint water in the fridge in a sealed glass bottle or jug for up to 48 hours. The flavour will continue to deepen, but ingredients may lose crispness after the first day.
  • Avoid Freezing: Freezing this infusion is not recommended, as the texture of cucumber and mint deteriorates upon thawing.
  • Strain If Needed: If storing for more than a few hours, strain out the cucumber and mint to prevent bitterness and maintain a clean flavour.
  • Portable Option: Transfer to a reusable bottle for hydration on the go. Add a few fresh ingredients just before leaving to maintain vibrancy.
  • Batch Preparation: Prepare multiple servings in advance for parties or daily use, keeping them chilled and covered to maintain freshness.
